Saving on Car Expenses

I notice you have had 2 SUV's as vehicles in the past. These are fine for hauling and going through snow, but they are very fuel inefficient. I personally own a 2006 Prius, still in excellent shape, and I do all the maintenance myself. I change the oil every 10,000 miles using synthetic oil and the best Fram oil filter I can buy. I also rotate my tires at the same interval, since I am lucky enough to have a lift in my garage. This seems more cost effective than the 5000 mile interval, I presume with conventional oil. Synthetic oil should protect your engine better. I also prophylactically changed the anti-freeze and serpentine belt at about 120,000 miles. I suggest looking into fuel efficient vehicles such as the Prius, but keep in mind the cost of replacing the hybrid battery. Mine is currently 12 years old, but going strong. The cost of replacement is also coming down somewhat. Membership to Costco always pays for itself every year, not to mention saving an average of 15-30 cents/gallon
